What is a Structural Shift?

A Structural Shift (Vertebral Subluxation) is a condition where one or more of the 24 spinal bones (vertebra), or pelvis, has lost its normal alignment and movement.

Structural shifts are caused by the body being overwhelmed by physical, chemical or emotional stresses. Many times Structural Shifts can occur during the growth phase of our lives (childhood falls, bike wrecks, sports activity) and can remain into adulthood. Most often they result from the repeated daily tasks that we subject our bodies to.

Structural Shifts affect our nervous system and this can lead to an obstruction in the normal electrical communication necessary to properly control all body functions.

Structural Shifts can lead to numerous issues referred to as Secondary Conditions.

What is a Secondary Condition?

Secondary Conditions are also referred to as "symptoms". Structural Shifts in the spine can affect the function of the entire body and your well-being. Common Secondary Conditions that can result from Structural Shifts in the spine are:

  • Pain
  • Numbness/Tingling
  • Loss of muscle strength
  • Loss of muscle coordination
  • Headaches/Migraines
  • Digestive dysfunction (acid reflux, constipation)
  • Poor sleep quality
  • Disc bulge/herniation
  • Poor posture
  • Colic in babies and kids
  • Bedwetting
  • Ear infections
  • Asthma/Respiratory issues
  • Decreased energy
  • Congestion

What do we do?

The focus of our office is to analyze the spine to determine if there are signs of Structural Shift. If the examination test results identify Structural Shifts then we will start to apply specific Chiropractic adjustments to correct the spine and reduce the obstruction to the nervous system.
